A horrifically beautiful picture
The prophecy of Hosea.
I know of no other picture of our salvation in the whole of scripture that is at one and the same time so horrific and so beautiful!
The whole book comprises a factual account of the life and ministry of Hosea, and yet God called him to live it to be a powerful real-life play to the children of Israel to demonstrate God's faithfulness to them and their spiritually adulterous response to Him.
But for us there is yet a third and even more important dimension to this book, it is not just about one man's life and the nation of Israel - it is very much about the state of the church of Jesus Christ today and the amazing faithfulness of our God towards us!
