Salvation, submission and suffering
Persecution has arrived and it's only going to get worse! That is the foundation on which this letter is written. Peter's concern is that the church of Jesus Christ should understand suffering, be prepared for it, and glorify God in it.
Three words summarise the progression of this short letter - Salvation, Submission and Suffering. Peter starts with looking at what God has done for us to make us who we are in Christ, then moves into how we should respond to that in submission in every area and aspect of life, and finally he addresses the very real challenge of suffering for Christ, he looks at the example of Christ, the work of the church leaders, and the role of each Christian.
This short letter contains both wonderful theology driving us to grateful worship, and practical teaching that should shape our lives in every way.
